Wha SUP?

Wha SUP?

It’s a ‘Single Member Private Limited Liability Company’ and it has been proposed by the Internal Market Directorate of the European Commission.

In brief it would allow companies in the EU to have their registered offices in separate member states to their head offices – it seems to be a way of encouraging companies to shop around even more for light touch regulatory regimes, and a cast iron guarantee of triggering a race to the bottom that is even fiercer than the one we have now.

It sounds like a possible reform to watch and something that if combined with the effects of TTIP will see some of us wondering even more than usual what it is we actually get out of the EU – not membership, because if it exists we have to be members, but it’s very existence.
